Lost Lab and Owner are Re-united!
In this third and final chapter (blog post), there is a happy ending, and my Basset Hound, Happy, was happy about that. The lost black lab camped out with us for the weekend. Austin was growing fond of the lost pet and hoped that I would not be able to connect with the owner as he has been asking for another dog for 2-3 years. The low to the ground Basset has never been quite what he wants for a dog – he wants a large, rambunctious, roll and tumble dog to expend some of his energies with. Meanwhile, I continued with my research and endeavor to restore this very nice dog to its owner. Multiple attempts to reach city animal control/ “dog pound” were to no avail, especially on the weekend and reaching the voice mail with NUMEROUS automated options got old fast. The rabies tag had the name
Lost Dog Saga Continues
It turns out that not only am I super mom, but a crafty detective as well. I guess I have some idea now of what I may do in retirement or possibly in the “next life”. So, Friday afternoon kicks off with totally re-arranged plans for the week-end with the abrupt arrival of an unknown quite large frisky male black lab dog. He, of unknown origin and name is to lodge with our family over the week-end and who knows how long. You have to understand, this was also much of a disturbance to our gentle, sedate Basset Hound, Happy, who has been an “only dog” for over 8 years now. She kept looking at me as if to say, “How could you let this happen to our peaceful little setting”? Austin and Lydia and numerous friends coming and going thought it was a grand idea to adopt another pet. Adopt?
Prescription Drug Use Problem, Part 2
Prescription drug abuse has been now labeled as “epidemic” in Eastern NC, a scary thought and a TERRIBLE problem which has implications far and wide affecting our youth. Drug overdose / misuse related deaths follow only behind traffic fatalities as the 2nd leading cause of death in Eastern NC. This information is a wake up call to citizens young and old who care anything at all about what is happening in our society, and most especially amongst our young people. To bring you a bit more up to speed, the most commonly abused drugs and those most commonly cited as contributing to unintentional poisoning deaths are : Methadone, Oxycodone, Hydrocodone (and other Opioid painkillers), Alprazolam(Xanax) and Fentanyl. These are very useful, effective drugs which serve a need to provide pain relief in patients who truly need such medications, such as, but not limited to, cancer patients. Physicians have a duty to prescribe
Too Many Days Off?
My son comes home from school smiling from ear to ear. He is excited because he has a three day weekend. Then he proceeds to tell me with full excitement in his voice that he has one day of school and then 6 days off! What? How do you have 6 days off? He does not have to go to school for the six days straight because he doesn’t have to take his exams. Therefore, he does not have to attend school for six days straight giving him a nice little vacation. I am not so sure if I agree with letting students stay home if they are exempt from exams. That just seems like too many days home from school. It’s almost as if it’s wasted time with a lot of mindless activity. How many of you agree or disagree? Don’t get me wrong I don’t think our kids should
It’s Better to Give…
I think I can truly say I love to give more than to receive. Don’t get me wrong. I love to get good “stuff.” And I’m not too hard to please. I like getting pretty simple things. Give me some white cotton socks or some new white kitchen towels and I’m happy. I was thrilled with the new camera Mark got me last year for Christmas. It’s not that I don’t appreciate receiving gifts. But I can honestly say I love giving gifts even more. I always wish I had an unlimited budget (or at least a bigger budget!) when it comes to birthdays and holidays because I could really just keep picking out things to give the people that I love. But I’ve found that the most appreciated things we give each other are not always the most expensive. I think the most important part of the giving is
