I have now been blogging for Realiteen for almost two years and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience to share the ebb and flow of life with three teens in the house. I am well seasoned with the teen scene, but learn something new and exciting almost every day still. I am blessed to be the very proud mom of three teens: Kassiane, 17; Austin, 16; and Lydia, 15. Yes, you read correctly – stair step teens. They were once 1, 2 and 3, if you can only imagine. That part seems like a blur now – thank goodness for photos and video. It has all happened so quickly and now they are in 10th, 11th and 12th grades. One of the first thoughts that now comes to mind when I tell someone their ages is that they will graduate from high school three years running; and of course, that means beginning college three years running, too. That means three cars, three more insurance policies, oh the horrors. We will cross those bridges soon enough. For now, the household is bustling; even teaming with activity and commotion and that is putting it politely. The “we” I mention includes my husband, Doctor Tim, who is a general surgeon, and practices with Onslow Surgical Clinic. It goes almost without saying, he is a very busy husband/dad. The great news is that he is a very involved, hands-on kind of dad and always has been. He comes home, rolls up his sleeves and pitches in with whatever needs to be done to manage the group. Early on we realized that we would have our hands full and being that there are three of “them” and two of “us”, the odds were against us. It has been a challenge keeping our ship afloat and keeping the kids steered, but always a joy and we would have never had it any other way. I am a real multi-tasking mom, too, with quite a few irons in the fire. I am a registered nurse, since 1982, with a clinical background in trauma and critical care nursing. In recent years, my focus has been in nursing education at Onslow Memorial Hospital; however, during the past two years, I have also been working PRN(filling in as needed), in out-patient clinics at the Naval Hospital and MCAS. The flexibility of PRN works great with managing the busy schedules of the teens, yet allows me to keep connected with my profession. I also volunteer in their schools and for the past three years have been helping to re-invent the Onslow County Medical Society Alliance, a physician spouses’ organization. I’ve also been a long standing soccer mom, an avid gardener and love to cook. When I say, never a dull moment – it truly means, NEVER a dull moment. I look forward to more blogging and sharing about life with the stair step teens. Stay tuned!

Another Show We Love

Well, well, well…you all know that our favorite pastime is watching the show, Glee. Two weeks ago, we ran across a show called, The Sing Off, which is just like Glee but it’s live. Can you all imagine the excitement when we saw the previews? We were sitting at home for the past two Mondays waiting on pins and needles for the show to come on. I know you all think I’m a little crazy, but it is so rare that we all can find a show that all of us likes and wants to watch together. We came to love a group called Committed, who was previously a gospel group. Two weeks ago we watched them make it to the finals and when that was announced, we let out the shout heard around the world. Soraya, Kiki, and I were hanging on to every word Nick Lashay said Monday

Lean on Me

Hey everybody!  Soraya and I went to church Sunday and the subject was, “Lean on Me.” I had not been to church in a while because I work almost every Sunday, but I was thrilled to be there. That saying about never missing your water until the well runs dry, well I know it first hand. I really think I took going to church for granted. I never knew how much I actually missed until I was in service Sunday morning. I’m not going to preach the service to you all, but the message was one that I wanted to share. The bottom line was that we can’t get through this world by ourselves. I have often told friends that needed my help that we are all in this together. If they need the help, I’m going to help them because there’s going to be a day when I’m going

One Holiday Gift I’m Going Nuts Over

It’s very rare that I can get excited about spending money for the holidays. The kids have everything they could ever need, so why should I be concerned about their wants, Bah humbug! Okay, so I was watching Good Morning America the other day and I saw the advertisement for the new Kinect which is an addition to the Xbox. Man I was so excited I near about jumped through the television. This thing is sort of like the wii, but you didn’t need a controller nor does it take extra accessories to play the games. The whole game uses just your body. Your body is the controller! Can you believe that? I was really looking forward to purchasing the wii, but I think it would be more cost effective for me to get the Xbox with Kinect. The price right now is about $299.00 for the whole system and

Videos: Kiki’s first touchdown on 2010 season and Scoot’s huddle after his game

Hello everyone. Couple videos to share from last weekend! Just a little information on the videos. Sikia my youngest girl scored the first touchdown of the game this past Saturday. She is no longer with the purple flag team as you may remember from an earlier post due to her coach being arrested. Scoot also had a game. I was hoping to interview him after is game, but I had to fly from Wallace back to Richlands for Ki’s game so please forgive me for the footage. It will better next time. Atleast you will get to see what our little Wildcats look and sound like.
