Nicole Davies

Hello! My name is Nicole and I am a Marine spouse and mother of three daughters, ages 16, 10, and 7. I have been a stay-at-home mom most of their lives while also pursuing my Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. In the past I have worked as a social worker for child welfare in the state of Pennsylvania. I have also taught preschool for ages 2.5 - 4. During my master’s program I interned as a therapist at an inpatient psychiatric hospital working with adults, teens, and kids. My ultimate goal is to become an independently licensed therapist. Our family has lived in Onslow County for 10 of the last 15 years, which has given my children a stability that is rare among military families. While NC has been my home for several years now, I am still a Yankee at heart! I will always choose a Philly cheesesteak over a pulled-pork sandwich. In addition to taking care of my family and my educational pursuits, I enjoy traveling to destinations near and far; a novel in which I can get lost; and chatting with friends over a good cup of coffee.

The Nike Fad

Do your teens have a Nike tube sock fad?

Nike seems to be the choice of  what I would call the latest fad around. Does anyone seem to agree? It seems that everyone I come in contact with is wearing some kind of Nike shoe and sock. My son’s friends wear the black Nike tube sock with Nike slip-ons.  I had previously thought that he was not one for wearing the tube sock look, but he does like wearing the short socks or the no show socks.  As all parents know, Nike items are not cheap.  I can tell you first hand that a three pack of socks is fourteen dollars.  So if are to break the price down for one pair of socks that would be at the cost of five dollars per pair. I refused to pay that much for socks.  Therefore, if my son wanted a pair he had to purchase his socks on his own.

I did buy him a pair of  Nike shoes.I told him I would buy his shoes for back to school, but he would have to buy the socks. I understand the fashion trend changes and its important for young people to go with the trend, but come on! I should not complain so much because I was once a teen and I remember the Swatch Watch, the Limited clothing, the Benetton clothing among some of the more expensive fad and fashions.  I guess you could say keeping up with the latest fads definitely costs!

Do you know any teen fads and fashions that are costly but are the “In Style Fad?”

Funny what pops up in Google search results.

Nike is hardly a “fad” when they’ve been absolutely massive for decades. Under Armor, Adidas etc all make the crew socks and slides young guys love, not just Nike. Nike products are expensive because of great designs and exceptional quality.

And the socks in question are crew socks, not tube socks. The socks in the pic above however are tube socks, but Nike only occasionally makes over-the-calf tube socks.
