Bill Mercer

My name is Bill Mercer and I am the father of three children. Two sons, John and Drew, age 16, are in the middle of teenagedom. My daughter Molly is a college student. They are great children and I am very proud of them. I am a widower for six years. I am in a relationship with Betsy and Will Heath (her son) and we are all family. I am an insurance representative with Mass Mutual Financial Group in the offices of Bartley Insurance Services here in Jacksonville, N.C. I have lived in Jacksonville since 1986. I am a native of Richlands, N.C. I am a graduate of Richlands High School and East Carolina University. I attend Trinity United Methodist church, along with a Mens Bible Study there. Raising and providing for my family is the most important function of my life. Duh! Being with my family and watching them grow and evolve into the people I see them becoming is the most fun I have ever had. All four grandparent’s live close by and that is real nice. I am grateful for my family, my friends and the road ahead. Some very important people have played major roles in the lives of my children. I look forward to sharing this adventure with the readers of Realiteen. We are shaped by our experiences. Hope you enjoy. Talk with you soon.

Wal-Mart Fun

My teen and his friends love going into Wal-Mart for playtime.  Yes, I said playtime! My son and his friends act like total goof balls in the aisles of the Wal-Mart.  They bee-line straight to the back where the toy section is located.  They like to venture into the toy section to play with the toys and act like three year olds.  I have to warn my son not to go back into the toy section and act like a total fool.  Yes, my teen likes to relive some of his toddler moments.  One day we went into wal-mart and my son and his friend picked up some light sabers and started to battle each other in the middle of the aisle.  A Wal-Mart associate had to scold them for acting up in the store.

Does your teen have a Goofy side?

I, of course had to ask “How old are you?”  Another time my son had his friend sitting in a shopping cart acting like a baby while being pushed around the store.  “Grow up son!” are my famous words when it comes to our frequent visits to Wal-Mart.  Do your teens have silly moments?  I remember reading a blog from another author called “Annoying Julius.”  I loved it because it was funny and it reminded me so much of the goofy side my son can sometimes possess.  My son just needs to be reminded to keep the goofy side at a controllable level.    Oh well, he keeps me laughing and acts just like someone we both know all so well!

Does anyone else have a goofball for a kid? How do you deal with their crazy antics?
