Nicole Davies

Hello! My name is Nicole and I am a Marine spouse and mother of three daughters, ages 16, 10, and 7. I have been a stay-at-home mom most of their lives while also pursuing my Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. In the past I have worked as a social worker for child welfare in the state of Pennsylvania. I have also taught preschool for ages 2.5 - 4. During my master’s program I interned as a therapist at an inpatient psychiatric hospital working with adults, teens, and kids. My ultimate goal is to become an independently licensed therapist. Our family has lived in Onslow County for 10 of the last 15 years, which has given my children a stability that is rare among military families. While NC has been my home for several years now, I am still a Yankee at heart! I will always choose a Philly cheesesteak over a pulled-pork sandwich. In addition to taking care of my family and my educational pursuits, I enjoy traveling to destinations near and far; a novel in which I can get lost; and chatting with friends over a good cup of coffee.

The Teen Cave

Now this is a really nice "Teen Cave." Do you have a "Teen Cave?"

Have any of you transformed a room into a “teen cave?”  Not a man cave, but a teen-friendly room?  It’s a fun process to make the transformation and a lot of work!   Not such a great idea to do it right after Christmas because it’s almost too much work!

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I like to take down my Christmas decorations two days after Christmas.  My family decorates the house and the tree right after Thanksgiving and takes down the decorations and the tree right after Christmas.

Having said that, we all know taking down decorations and the tree can be a big job!  My son was not here over the break because he went to spend time with some family.  Therefore, when he gets back he will have a new area in the house all to himself.  I have set up a new TV stand for his TV and game system.  I have also set up some pieces of  furniture such as a small computer desk for our laptop.  I must say it looks pretty nice and “cool!” I even broke down and bought a new light for our fish tank.  It’s amazing how little things can really make a difference.  The light in the fish tank brings a lot of “pizazz” to the room!  I have a lot of friends that have turned a garage into a teen hideaway.  Teens love to have some privacy and a place to “chill” with their friends.   I hope my son likes his new teen cave!

Have you transformed a room into a “teen cave?” What were the results? Did your teenager enjoy a teen-friendly room?
