All My Bags are Packed…Not So Ready to Go!
Remember that old John Denver song that began with, “All my bags are packed and I’m ready to go…”? Well, that’s how it was with one of the two teens at our house. Katie had her bags bought, monogrammed, and packed with school supplies. She had the outfit for the first day of school hanging in her closet. She was ready to go. Now, her sister, Lexie, is another story altogether! She had the bag and sort of knew what she needed to put in it for the beginning of school, but she was waiting until the last minute to pack it up.
Katie and I went out at the beginning of the week and did our final shopping for all she needed for the beginning of a new year and actually had a good time. We saw several pairs of moms and daughters who were definitely NOT having a good time with the back to school shopping, though! And we both talked about our feelings on the subject of the new school year. There’s a lot to be excited about and plenty to dread, for sure!
We’re dreading all the things that come with back to school: getting up early, having a schedule, homework, and going to bed at a reasonable time. We’re excited about seeing friends every day, school supplies, monogrammed backpacks and lunchboxes, all the activities at school, and a fresh start. As a mom, I’m pretty sad that the girls will be out of the house all day, too. I know…crazy talk.
So, fellow parents, here’s to a fresh start and new challenges! Let me know how it goes at your house as we start the 2010-2011 school year!
